Student Conduct

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment that supports learning and personal growth for all students at Boise Modern Chinese School. This policy outlines expectations for student conduct, procedures for addressing violations, and guidelines for fostering a positive school community.

Scope

This policy applies to all students enrolled at Boise Modern Chinese School during school hours, on school premises, during school-sponsored activities (on or off campus), and while using school transportation or digital platforms provided by the school.

Student Conduct Expectations

Students are expected to:

    1. Respect Others: Treat all students, staff, and visitors with courtesy, kindness, and respect, regardless of differences in race, gender, religion, or background. Harassment, bullying (verbal, physical, or cyber), discrimination, or intimidation is strictly prohibited.

    2. Follow Instructions: Comply with directions from teachers, staff, and administrators in a timely and respectful manner.

    3. Ensure Safety: Engage in behaviors that promote a safe environment. This includes avoiding physical altercations, unsafe actions, or possession of prohibited items (e.g., weapons, drugs, alcohol, or tobacco).

    4. Uphold Academic Integrity: Complete all work honestly, avoiding cheating, plagiarism, or unauthorized collaboration.

    5. Care for Property: Respect school property, including facilities, equipment, and materials, as well as the personal belongings of others. Vandalism or theft is prohibited.

    6. Use Technology Responsibly: Follow the school’s acceptable use policy for digital devices and platforms. This includes avoiding inappropriate content, cyberbullying, or unauthorized access to systems.

    7. Attend and Be Punctual: Attend classes and school activities on time, prepared to participate, with required materials.

    8. Dress Appropriately: Adhere to the school’s dress code, ensuring clothing is safe, non-disruptive, and appropriate for a learning environment.

      Prohibited Behaviors

The following behaviors are strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary action:

  1. Fighting, violence, or threats of harm.

  2. Bullying, harassment, or discrimination in any form.

  3. Possession, use, or distribution of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or weapons.

  4. Cheating, plagiarism, or academic dishonesty.

  5. Vandalism, theft, or destruction of property.

  6. Disruption of classes or school activities.

  7. Unauthorized use of electronic devices or violation of the school’s technology policy.

  8. Truancy or leaving campus without permission.

Consequences for Violations

Violations of the student conduct policy will result in disciplinary action, determined based on the severity and frequency of the offense. Consequences may include:

  1. Verbal Warning: For minor infractions, a staff member will discuss the behavior and expectations with the student.

  2. Written Warning: A formal notice documenting the violation, shared with the student and parent/guardian.

  3. Detention: Time assigned outside regular class hours for reflection or completion of corrective tasks.

  4. Parent/Guardian Conference: A meeting with parents/guardians, teachers, and/or administrators to address the behavior and develop a plan for improvement.

  5. Suspension: Temporary removal from classes or school activities (in-school or out-of-school suspension) for serious or repeated violations.

  6. Expulsion: Permanent removal from the school for severe or persistent violations, subject to review by the school board.

  7. Restitution: Compensation for damages caused to school or personal property.

  8. Referral to Authorities: For illegal activities (e.g., possession of weapons or drugs), law enforcement may be notified.

Disciplinary Procedures

  1. Investigation: Incidents will be investigated promptly and fairly by school staff or administrators. Students involved will have an opportunity to share their perspective.

  2. Notification: Parents/guardians will be informed of significant violations and disciplinary actions.

  3. Documentation: All incidents and consequences will be recorded in the student’s record.

  4. Appeal Process: Students or parents/guardians may appeal disciplinary decisions by submitting a written request to the principal within five school days. The appeal will be reviewed by the school administration or board.

Positive Behavior Support

Boise Modern Chinese School is committed to fostering positive behavior through:

  1. Recognition: Acknowledging students who demonstrate exemplary conduct through awards, praise, or privileges.

  2. Education: Providing guidance on conflict resolution, empathy, and responsible decision-making.

  3. Support Services: Offering counseling or mentorship for students needing additional support to meet conduct expectations.

Communication

This policy will be shared with students and parents/guardians at the start of each school year and is available on the school website. Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to review the policy and contact the school administration with any questions.

Acknowledgment

By enrolling at Boise Modern Chinese School, students and parents/guardians agree to abide by this conduct policy. Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action as outlined above.
